Review of Tribal Crab Chart
I bought this chart to work as a gift for my son, who loves crabs and sea creatures! I was very taken with the unusual way the design incorporates blocks of shapes to form the larger picture. The chart itself is very clearly printed, on excellent quality heavy paper (almost like a thin card, actually) which is very durable, in a sort of booklet layout. The chart is spaced over two A4 sized pages inside, and has a full colour picture of the design on the front cover. On the back cover, the designers have helpfully advised how much thread you will need, to complete the design, plus the usual stitch count information, etc., the size being 147 x 97 which is 10.5 inches x 6.93 inches worked on 14 count%2 0fabric. For an experienced stitcher, I would say that this is a very easy stitch, because instead of having to constantly change threads, and count areas of each colour you work, you just need to get the stitch count for each 'pattern block' right. The threads don't need to change (this design is worked in a single colour). The spacing between the shapes means that the work progresses pleasingly quickly - for example, I stitched the left claw in a three evening's work. To add a little interest, I am working with variegated threads for this design (Anchor Perle in 1316 - 'Red Fire') and I have to say that the way the colours transition looks great! (Stitching tip: If you have not tried multicolour thread s before, they are wonderful and add real interest to single-colour designs. Just remember to work each COMPLETE stitch as you go, otherwise when you come to complete your X, you will be in another colour part of the thread, and the two parts of your stitch will be different colours! It's easy to get into the way of stitching like this, and the effects can be amazing!)I like the design so much, that I am going to get another one of these - perhaps the Tribal Lobster, which would go well with the Tribal Crab. All in all, I give this one 5* and would be very happy not only to recommend the designs, but indeed, buy another of their 'Tribal' series!
