Design size: 19.5cm (7.67 in) square

This sea serpent inspired by the art of William de Morgan is stitched in whole cross stitch, with a little backstitch to emphasize some details. You could work the designs on 28-count linen (or 14-count Aida), for a finished size of 23cm (9in) square. Stitch count: 123h x 1235w.

Materials: 30 x 30cm (12 x 12in) 32-count white Belfast evenweave linen (or a 16-count Aida), Tapestry needle size 24, DMC stranded cotton (floss) as listed in chart key and wooden picture frame with a circular aperture. Note that DMC 797 requires two skeins. Work over two threads of linen, using two strands of stranded cotton for cross stitch. Work backstitches with one strand. Some of the details require backstitches that use the centre point of a square of the grid as well as, or instead of, the corners. A craft light with magnifying glass would be helpful.
