Review of Lowery Light Bracket for SG
I've done a review of the main stand on the Silver Grey Stand listing. This is specifically for this accessory. It doesn't have instructions so I phoned the manufacturer, who called me back the same day and were very helpful. I think the next batch might have instructions, as I suggested they should. It comes with 3 holes drilled right through, and a thumb screw and a Lever Screw. The manufacturer said you can use ANY of the holes to put the L shaped elbow bar through and must use the Lever Screw to attach the bar to the stand itself. You use whichever of the other holes you like for the attachments USING the thumb screw. (the difference is the lever screw is like the ones on the stand, the thumb screw has a flattened holding bit). I found it works best for me with the Elbow through the middle one and the light in the hole furthest away from me.SewandSo recommended I bought the Naturalight DN1020 for it. When I first put it on, it wouldn't drop all the way through, after a little bit of use and swinging it around the spike dropped down fully, stripping off a little of the enamel on the spike.I wouldn't say they were downsides so much, BUT1. The inside of the stand is obviously a little bit oily from manufacture and you can't get to it to clean it, so whilst I'd like to use the final hole to stick my scissors in so I don't lose them, I don't want them to get oily. You do need to use a s oft cloth/ paper towel to wipe off manufacturing residue (see my Stand Review for this) but it's easily done and once done, doesn't need doing again.2. The lamp is heavy 2.7kg, so that means one either has to put the stand's foot underneath the furniture OR weight it down. You can't use the stand unweighted and swing the arm/lampstand with lamp away from you without it falling over unless it's weighted. I put 2 sand filled doorstops onto the plate, and it works fine, bit wibbly when you move it, but sturdy enough when it's not moving. The best bits - 1. your light is exactly where you need it. 2. You can swing it away from and towards your work and yourself really easily and the Stand carri es the weight of the lamp, so if you have muscle weakness like me, it's easy to use3. You can put the light bracket anywhere vertically along the Elbow arm, so that if you can't quite adjust the lamp, you can move the Bracket up and down to the right height. The Lever Screw for the bracket is weightbearing so you need a bit of strength to adjust it unless you take the lamp off first. No idea what other lamps there are, but I think one that's maybe under 2kg preferably 1 - 1.5kg would be safer if your stand is freestanding like mine next to the bed. I'd be careful if I had kids or dogs who might knock it. But if it's going under a sofa base or chair leg, it'd be absolutely fine and perfectly safe. (As with anything, gravity prefers top heavy things to be on the floor, so as I didn't consider that before I bought it, I thought I'd say it here so you can!)Overall though, I think it's a very good accessory that I'll use constantly.
