This was my first piece of freestyle embroidery. Perhaps a little ambitious but I managed well and the final piece it beautiful. The wood in the corner is stitched with wool, which was totally new to me, and I struggled a bit to keep the fabric taught though this was probably down to skill rather than the pattern. The bird is extremely striking. I had it framed with a wood with bamboo-like markings but in a dark shade with a hint of gold sheen.

 I have done a lot of cross stitch in the past but never this kind of freestyle embroidery. It took a little while to get the hang of it but it's quite easy with a little practice and patience. The most important thing is to keep the material taut across an embroidery hoop or frame to get the best results. Be aware that the kit doesnt include lots of extra thread so be careful not to make too many mistakes. The final piece is stunning and is a gift for my Taiwanese parents in law. I hope they love the Asian theme.

 I have really loved doing this project as the colours are vibrant, the stitches varied and also the threads (some wool and gold threads as well as Anchor silks). I took up water colour painting but did not find it relaxing - this project is like painting on material. Almost finished and it looks stunning. Looking for my next project now.
