 This is the second kit I have purchased from the Heritage "Little Friends" selection and again I chose the 14 count Aida version. On first impressions I couldn't help but grin at the little bird- seriously how cute? I hoped that I could recreate that wonderful cute fluffiness myself. All the threads were placed on the colour code card so no confusion over trying to work out what colour was what, The colour key itself was made plain and simple (although I did panic a bit as there were quite a few times where you had to use two colours whilst stitching so I hoped I didn't make a big mess). Getting started was simple, the centre was marked clearly and the whole pattern seemed to just "flow" well. I love the effect that two colours used at the same time gave, it was so simple yet effective! The pattern has a few "huh?" stitches, not just 3 quarter stitches but vertical/horizontal stitches, and straddled full cross stitch which takes a bit of getting used to but it is great fun and gives the pattern a really interesting twist. The backstitching wasn't a chore either. Not a huge amount and it is well worth it to give your chickadee that fluffy effect. Overall I found the pattern to be very addictive- I couldn't wait to get back to it, it only took me a couple of days to do, and the result looks just like it's supposed to which I wasn't expecting as a newbie! Very pleased! Roll on the next Heritage pattern.
